Home to incredible seafood spots and fish ‘n’ chip restaurants, we eat a lot of fish in Bristol. Meanwhile, fish is served in 97% of households in the UK, and over a third of the world’s population depends on seafood for protein. But we’re also well aware of the fishing industry’s impact on the world’s oceans (we all remember Seaspiracy, right?)
That’s why – champion and advocate of sustainability and local produce – acclaimed Bristol chef, Josh Eggleton has launched a brand new food festival that celebrates eco-friendly fish. In collaboration with the Bristol Harbour Festival, Bristol Seafood Week will raise awareness of sustainable fishing and show off the city’s incredible restaurants.
From July 15 to 21, restaurants, suppliers and producers will come together for Bristol Seafood Week. Whether that’s creating a new menu of fish-inspired dishes, hosting seafood cooking classes, or holding discussions on seafood sustainability, the week-long event promises to take foodies on a culinary journey – anyone wanting to get involved should follow the Bristol Seafood Week’s Instagram.
Many of the restaurants at Wapping Wharf, which offers the perfect waterside location, will be at the heart of the festival hub – including Salt & Malt, Root, BOX-E and the Olive Shed. Other well-known restaurants getting involved are the Bianchis group and Nadu, among many others.
“Bristol Seafood Week is about highlighting the brilliant chefs and restaurants we have in the city and inviting us to try new types of fish and reassess our supply chains,” said Josh Eggleton, who is also head chef at The Pony Chew Valley.
“As a city based on the harbour with access to the incredible produce of the South West, we are perfectly placed to showcase the importance of protecting and preserving the ocean, sourcing more fish from local waters.”
Bristol Harbour Festival, which highlights the city’s historic connection to the water, will also return July 19 – 21. You can learn more about it here.
