The real Filthy Thirteen were a group of American WWII paratroopers known for drinking and fighting, wearing mohawks and warpaint, and a general disregard for military discipline. Despite their unorthodox ways, they were also incredibly determined and successful. You may see a similarity then with Bristol’s Filthy XIII.
The non-conforming Bristol cocktail bar has always prioritised the “end result over conforming to set styles, rules or regulations.” Serving up classic cocktails (often with a modern twist) with a laid-back service style and to throwback a hip-hop playlist, Filthy XIII does things a little differently from other cocktail bars in Bristol.
By forgoing the glitz and glamour, or secluded speakeasy vibes, of other Bristol bars, Filthy XIII has carved out something special. House classics include a Lychee Martini, Pornstar Spritz, Absinthe Frappé and (the too easily drinkable) Scotch & Champage. You’ll also find an equally exciting menu for alcohol-free drinks, as well as an extensive wine list and a range of beers.
Plus, the Stokes Croft bar also has a food menu that’s straight out of a dive bar—and we’re here for it! Think: buffalo chicken, nachos, fries and hot dogs, lots and lots of hot dogs—with toppings like truffle mac ‘n’ cheese, chilli, kimchi and curry ketchup. You won’t be leaving hungry, that’s for sure.
It’s this unique ethos that’s seen it become a multi-award-winning bar, time and time again. Most recently, it’s won the ‘Best Bar in the West’ at the CLASS Bar Awards 2025. “Once again, our voters’ favourite, this neighbourhood bar with pared-back decor and smashable cocktails, is a real bartenders’ bar.”
Open Tuesday to Saturday, 5pm to midnight, you can find Filthy XIII at 208 Cheltenham Road, Bristol, BS6 5QU. To learn more about Filthy XIII head here. Or, alternatively, you’ll find its sister bar Her Majesty’s Secret Service off Whiteladies Road
